Salinity stress effects on the growth, morphological, physiological, and biochemical properties of Melia (Melia dubia Cav.) plant

Salinity stress severely affects the growth, physiological and developmental processes in plant species. Melia dubia is an ecologically economically important tree species of Indian subcontinent. However, systematic information with respect to salt tolerance potential completely lacking. Under conditions, determining suitable soil EC range required for better survival, growth productivity In present study, we investigated effects different salinity (EC 4, 8, 12) levels on ion homeostasis, physio-biochemistry, morphology, M. plant. Results revealed that increase causes higher Na+ content Na+/K+ ratio, while lower K+ content, leaf tissues dubia. The such as photosynthetic rate, stomatal conductance, internal CO2 concentration, transpiration rate were adversely affected increased levels. Morphological parameters, internodal length, petiole width also decreased (P<0.05) under saline conditions. further indicated significantly was found optimum upto 8 EC, thereafter it slightly 12 EC. Our findings showed significant changes physiological, morphological, pattern Therefore, based experiment, soils at moderate (20–25%) reduction.
